Jim Wagner, ASGCA

Golf Course Architect

Jim Wagner is a Golf Course Architect with more than 25 years of international experience in golf course design, renovation, and construction oversight. Prior to establishing Jim Wagner Golf Design, he spent 23 years with Nicklaus Design and most recently served as a Golf Course Architect with Curley-Wagner Golf Design.

Wagner’s connection to golf began at Springfield Country Club in Massachusetts, where he worked in the bag room and caddied as a teenager under the guidance of longtime PGA Professional Harry Mattson Jr. Those early experiences provided a firsthand appreciation for the game and sparked an interest in how golf courses were designed, built, and maintained.

Having now lived and worked throughout Asia designing courses for more than two decades, Wagner has contributed to projects across China, India, Vietnam, the Philippines, and North America. His portfolio includes new golf course developments, resort destinations, renovations, remodels, short courses, practice facilities, and master planning assignments.

Recent work includes the newly opened Dragons Landing at Hann Reserve in New Clark City, Philippines, and Dhoho Surya Golf Course in Kediri, Indonesia. Other notable projects include the Ocean Course at FLC Quy Nhon Golf Resort, the North Course at BRG Golden Sands Golf Resort, BRG Legend Hill Country Club, the Queens Course at Royal Golf Club, Heshan Golf Club, and numerous renovation and master planning assignments throughout Asia and North America.

Wagner’s design philosophy is rooted in land-driven design. He believes the best golf courses emerge from a careful understanding of the property itself, allowing the natural landforms and features to shape the routing, strategy, and character of the course. His goal is to create golf courses that are memorable, strategically engaging, practical to maintain, and distinctive to their setting.

Wagner is a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects and remains personally involved throughout the design and construction process, working closely with ownership groups, consultants, and contractors to ensure that each project fulfills its vision and delivers lasting value.
